The Fontana Del Pantheon was designed Giacamo Della Porta and sculpted by Leonardo Sormani in 1578. However, in 1711 it was rearranged Filippo Barigioni as requested by Pope Clement XI who added the obelisk in the center of the fountain. This obelisk had been positioned in Piazza S. Macuto before, but it was created even before that in the Temple of Isis. The fountain was commissioned by Pope Gregory XIII and can be found in front of the Pantheon in the piazza known as Piazza della Rotanda.
The fountain is made primarily of marble and its water source supplied by Acqua Vergine. When the obelisk was added in 1711, a new base decorated with dolphins was also erected. In 1886, the original marble figures created by Giacamo and Leonardo were removed and replaced with copies made by Luigi Amici. The originals are now displayed in the Museum of Rome. The fountain contains an African dull-grey marble basin which supports the obelisk. The basin is adorned with 4 sections of masks and dolphins. These masks and dolphins were meant to be placed in Piazza Navona on the North Fountain. The water spews from the mouths of the four masks. On the south and north sides of the base of the obelisk are the coats of arms of the Albani family and the pope with tiara, keys, and cornucopia.
